Salt Test Indicator
The colour comparison guide shows different levels of metallic salt and dissolved iron contamination. The indicator papers change from pale yellow through to dark blue / black and provide a qualitative range of ferrous concentrations.
Metallic salts affect the bond strength of coatings. Salts contribute to coatings blistering, dis-bonding and showing rust bleed. Many coating failures have been incorrectly blamed on poor workmanship, due to lack of understanding of the effects of metallic salts, such as ferric chloride, ferric sulphate, nitrates, bromides, etc.
Field testing for Chorides by both qualitative and quantitative methods, is common and the threshold for acceptable levels is dropping, but the cumbersome methods for testing have remained the same – until now.
CORROCOAT – CHLOR*RID™ is so complete and easy to use test that even the least experienced coatings inspector can get accurate results. The test uses a unique patented extract solution, CHLOR*EXTRACT™ to retrieve surface chloride contamination. In the field, this special extract enhances retrieval rates, thereby increasing accuracy.
Salt test kits and Chlor*Rid decontamination liquid are available from Corrocoat
