Double skin containment and leak monitoring systems
Corrosion in storage tanks is a common problem, with the type of corrosion encountered dependent upon cargo and environment. For non-aggressive storage, the most common areas of damage are:
Above ground storage tanks:
- Floors (both inside and out)
- Tank externals
Underground/buried tanks:
- Internal base areas
Under the Prime Safe brand name, Corrocoat offers a range of tailored solutions, based on a composite coating system originally developed for the repair of large diameter storage tanks with holed floors.
This structural coating has been extensively used to create a ‘tank within a tank’ for applications such as underground storage tanks at petrol filling stations, creating an inner skin to prevent leakage even if the outer shell becomes perforated.
The Prime Safe service covers in-situ remediation of existing tanks, incorporating a leak detection monitoring system, creating an inner skin to prevent leakage even if the outer shell becomes perforated.
The system comprises:
- Two layers of structural coating applied to the tank internals (after surface preparation
- Interstitial area filled with a porous foam, but joined together by small connecting ‘pillars’
